A Comparative Study of ProSeal Laryngeal Mask Airway Cuff Pressure Changes with and without use of Nitrous oxide in Laparoscopic Surgeries

چکیده
ProSeal Laryngeal mask airway is increasingly being used as an airway device for laparoscopic surgery. Nitrous oxide can diffuse into the cuff of airway devices and may further increase the intracuff pressure. The present study was designed to investigate the intracufff pressure changes during anesthesia with and without use of nitrous oxide in patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery and also note post-operative complications like sore throat, dysphagia and dyshphon. 33 patients of ASA Grade 1 and 2 were randomized and allocated to group A (receiving mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen) and Group B(receiving oxygen). Following insertion of Proseal LMA, the cuff was inflated to an intracuff pressure of 45 mm Hg. The cuff pressure measured every 5 mins and also assessment of postoperative complications. The maximum intracuff pressure recorded in group A was 113 cm of H20, which was 87% higher than the baseline and in group B was 71.4 cm H20, which was 19 % percent higher than the baseline. The percentage rise in cuff pressure every 5 mins was also significant in Group A, being maximum at 20 mins. The incidence of complications in both the groups was statistically

Randomized crossover comparison of the proseal with the classic laryngeal mask airway in unparalysed anaesthetized patients.
BACKGROUND The ProSeal is a wire-reinforced laryngeal mask airway with an additional drain tube that leads to the distal tip of the laryngeal cuff. The design should improve the seal with the larynx. METHODS The ProSeal and classic laryngeal mask airways were compared in 180 patients in a randomized crossover study. Patients were anaesthetized without neuromuscular blocking drugs. RESULTS T...

BACKGROUND AND AIMS Second generation supraglottic airways are increasingly being used in surgical patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery. Preventing aspiration at higher airway pressures may be at the expense of a higher cuff pressure which can impair mucosal perfusion. We attempted to elucidate whether Ambu AuraGain™ (AAU) would provide a higher oropharyngeal leak pressure (OLP) with a lowe...
متن کاملComparison between i-gel airway an the proseal laryngeal mask airway in pediatric patients undergoing general anesthesia
Background The I-gel airway is a new supraglottic airway device without an inflatable cuff. In this study we compare the efficacy of the I-gel airway with the Proseal laryngeal mask airway (p-LMA) in children undergoing elective surgery under general anesthesia without use of muscle relaxants. Methods Eighty children, one to twelve years of age posted for elective surgery under general anesthes...

متن کاملThe effect of nitrous oxide on laryngeal mask cuff pressure.
During general anesthesia with the laryngeal mask airway (LMA), a significant increase in cuff pressure due to diffusion of nitrous oxide through the cuff wall occurs. This descriptive clinical study was conducted in a university teaching hospital ambulatory surgical center with 100 patients (ASA physical status, I-III; age, 5 months to 76 years; weight, 5.8-146.3 kg) undergoing general anesthe...
